The Inertia

According to reports out of Brazil, a bodyboarder went missing at Sununga Beach in Ubatuba, São Paulo, late on Saturday afternoon.

“He was with two friends who are from Guarujá too, but they did not go into the water,” Julio Cesar, the man who took the video above, told Globo.com. “He went in and the waves did not stop coming. They came one after another. He was diving, but the waves pulled him back. He even stood on the sand, but the wave pulled him back.”

Rescue crews were called around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon after the man disappeared in the pounding waves. They searched until nightfall with no results and resumed the search the next morning. By Sunday evening, he still hadn’t been found.

Globo.com reported that the missing man is an experienced bodyboarder. “He had been in town since Thursday and he arrived yesterday [Saturday] and went into the sea,” Cesar said. “He would catch a big wave in Guarujá, but I told him myself about three times not to enter the sea.”

This story is still developing. We’ll have more as information becomes available.
