The Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy is arguably one of the coolest contests in surfing. It’s warm water, drinks by the pool, and a bunch of friends in a friendly competition. On Thursday, Joel Parkinson came up against Josh Kerr for the final of the single-fin division, and Kerr took the win. But Parko wasn’t going down without a fight. When he came up against Kerr again in the twin-fin final, he took the trophy.
When the horn sounded, the waves at Sultan’s were about as good as they get. “That was amazing,” said Parkinson, “Wave after wave after wave. They’re the finals you dream of. There were two waves in every set, which was even better. You could get back to the top and say, ‘you have the first one, I’ll have the second one!’
