The Inertia

Indonesia isn’t called the “Land of the Lefts” for nothing. It’s a veritable playground for the goofy-footed surfer, but when it comes to long, barreling lefts, it’s pretty hard to beat Desert Point. It’s been called Indonesia’s longest tube, and while that’s certainly up for debate, no one can deny that it offers a supremely long barrel.

“By midday on the 14th of July, the biggest swell of the year was hitting its stride,” wrote Surfers of Bali on YouTube. “There were plenty that would run off a little too quickly, but when a set hit the reef at just the right angle, it was possible to travel for a couple of hundred meters on a single wave.”

Like a lot of spots in Indonesia, it’s not exactly a deep-water wave. Quite the opposite, in fact, so the longer you play on these waves, the more likely you are to leave a patch of skin behind for the fish. Worth it? Absolutely.
