Fiji is a place full of perfect waves, which is just one of the reasons why Jamie O’Brien loves it so much. When one perfect wave isn’t working, the next perfect wave is likely just around the corner. That’s how O’Brien ended up at Cloudbreak.
“We just checked Restaurants and it was a little weird,” he said. “Honestly, it was like two feet and there were like 50 guys out. But boom, look. Cloudbreak. End of the rainbow. The gold is coming in. There are some bombs coming in. It’s eight to 10, probably some 12-foot sets, Hawaiian-style, so like 40-feet California.”
Although there were a some surfers paddling, Jamie and Kaikea Elias decided they’d use the skis to do step offs. That enabled him to ride a little bit of a shorter board, which he prefers.
The next day, they had another look at Restaurants and found it to be working about as well at it can work. Just one more day in Jamie’s life of chasing perfect waves… and finding them.
