Jamie O’Brien grew up within spitting distance of Pipeline. When he got some cash, he bought a house that looked over it. You’ve likely seen the view from his balcony or walked by it if you’ve been down that particular path, and it’s got to be more than a house to Jamie, Tina, and their newborn son. But they’re moving.
“Kind of a big day,” he said after a quick testing session of a few of his Fun Day surfboards. “One of the biggest days of my life. We are moving. We’re not going to live at Pipeline anymore. It’s kind of a long story.”
Moving is always a hassle, but when one has a garage like Jamie’s — full of beautiful old surfboards as well as beautiful new ones — it becomes a little more stressful. They’ve done a lot from that house. All the vlogs they’ve edited, all the merchandise they’ve packed, all the memories they’ve made, and most importantly, it was their son’s first home.
“It’s kind of bittersweet because we like it down here. We like being by the beach.” Tina said. “Granted, we’re not going that far — obviously we can come back down here — but it’s happy and sad at the same time.”
They are not selling the house (that would be crazy, right?), but they are moving away from Pipeline. If I were to hazard a guess, I’d wager it’s got something to do with Jamie’s stature in surfing and living that close to the most famous wave in the world. Fame might be nice for some, but anyone looking for a bit of privacy might not like having strangers taking pictures of you all the time. Either way, Jamie O’Brien isn’t leaving Pipeline… he’s just leaving his Pipeline house.
