The other day, we came across a rather, well, intense interview with Eddie Rothman. It was a quite clear message that he was sick and tired of the lack of respect from outsiders visiting the North Shore. It made our spines shiver.
Anyway, while sorting through all those emotions, we also happened across this great edit of Jamie O’Brien ribbing John John Florence. (It’s all part of the same research being done by filmmaker Iwa Wojcik and photographer Poli Cali Bali for a potential North Shore 2.) You have to love the idea of two indisputable kings of Pipe taking the piss out of each other — especially JOB calling out JJF for losing to Kelly Slater in his own backyard. Apparently, there are even times when John John won’t paddle out because O’Brien is in the lineup. But John John has to simply suck it up at other times as there is a pecking order that not even Florence can ignore.
Whatever your thoughts are on North Shore culture, you have to respect the hierarchy of elders they have.
