The Inertia

At the end of April, the John John Florence camp released its latest film. Maps of Home was a short-ish 21 minutes — long for a YouTube film, but short in the wider world of movie making — but as is par for the course when JJF releases a film, it was stunningly good. It had Hollywood-like cinematography, music that made the cinematography even better, and a group of surfers that included Koa Rothman, Nathan and Ivan Florence, Jack Robinson, Eli Olson, Jamie O’Brien and of course, John John himself. It was a masterpiece, and that’s not being hyperbolic.

It was an ode, of sorts, to Hawaii. The North Shore in particular, where John John cut his teeth and grew into the surfer he is today.

Well, as is usually the case with these things, we’re getting a second offering. Like leftovers from a fantastic dinner, the second heaping plate is a more condensed version, but just as tasty. Above is the action edit from Maps of Home, and it’s all the best bits packed into three short minutes.
