The Inertia

When John John Florence announced he was taking a break from competitive surfing in 2025, the three-time world champ said he wanted to “create the time to explore” and “find new waves.” He’s held to his word.

Throughout 2025, he’s been updating his Instagram with photos and videos of his sailing trips, presumably around the Pacific Ocean. He’s been exploring new waves, foiling, and enjoying life with his wife and son. In the past six months, he said he’s sailed close to 2,000 miles.

Florence’s latest post reveals him surfing a massive tropical left-hand slab at an undisclosed location, leaving fans salivating.

“It’s a special feeling for me to be exploring different places and then finding a corner reef with a wave like this,” Florence said on Instagram. “Not a soul around, the water as blue as it gets, getting barreled all day. Today was a good day.”

Florence has said he intends to compete for a world title in 2026, but the season doesn’t start till April. He has plenty of time to continue sailing to new waves and teasing us with the paradises he explores. It’s anyone’s guess if he’ll ever reveal the location of the latest gem he surfed. Instagram wouldn’t let us embed the intriguing video cut but you can find the beautiful clip right here, set to Led Zeppelin no less. .
