If you can surf semi-okay, it’s pretty easy to look at someone getting towed into a wave and think to yourself, “I could do that.” And you probably could do that, but you probably wouldn’t do quite as well as someone like Koa Rothman. That’s because Koa Rothman surfs giant waves for a living. And these days, to surf giant waves for a living you need to have someone documenting those giant waves. Enter Jack Germain, Koa’s man behind the camera.
As you would expect, Jack surfs relatively well. One doesn’t get into the surf filmmaking business without having a healthy passion for surfing, after all, and Jack’s no different. So, on the day after the Eddie, Jack and Koa buzzed out to an outer reef to get Jack on the biggest wave he’s ever surfed.
“I’m pretty excited, honestly,” said Jack as he was pulling on an inflation vest. “I think I’ll do okay. I’m definitely nervous.”
And he did more than okay. From the looks of his face on the beach afterward, this won’t be the last time he finds himself on the tail end of a tow rope.
