In a funny little piece of surf movie history, Kolohe Andino’s dad, Dino, had a bit role in Point Break. He was, as you might be aware, the stoner guy under the blanket. In GQ’s most recent installment of The Breakdown, Kolohe sat down in front of the camera to break down a few of Hollywood’s finest surf films, including Point Break, Blue Crush, Surf’s Up, Gidget, Big Wednesday, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and The Shallows. It’s a bit of a stretch to call the latter two surf films, but they do have surfing in them, so we’ll let it slide.
There a few takeaways from Kolohe’s time on the Breakdown — first, never throw your board in the sand, because you’re supposed to “treat it very nicely and like, love on it.” Which, it should be noted, is not something Kolohe is known for.
