“How bad do you want to be better?” That’s a question Mark Healey asks himself often. The answer informs a lot of his day-to-day activities, and if his skill at many of them is anything to go by, Mark Healey really wants to be better. When he decides to set his mind to something, it’s almost a sure bet that he’s going to work at it until he’s very, very good.
He’s a champion hunter. A champion spearfisher. A champion big wave surfer. You don’t get to be that good at that many extraordinarily difficult things by not working at them, and Healey is a hard worker. In the short film above, which is made by Healey’s brand, Protekt, the living legend talks about “the respect based culture of Hawaii, how he earned his place in the community there and in the whole of action sports. Mark talks about the importance of a strong foundation of health in managing his demanding roles as a professional athlete, Co-Founder, and most importantly, as a father.”
