New Jersey’s Carter Doorley has surfed every day for the past 1,000 days. At 12 years old, that means he’s spent nearly a quarter of his life riding waves. Doorley first began his daily surfing journey when the schools shut down due to the pandemic. The playgrounds, skateparks, and hockey courts were closed near Doorley’s home in Brigantine, New Jersey but the beach remained open, so he decided to surf daily to get some energy out. Fast forward to February 2023 and Doorley has surfed over 1,000 days in a row. And he has no plans to stop.
In addition to simply surfing for fun, Doorely decided to use his surf journey as a way to raise money for local charities. He’s collected and donated money to a local animal farm, raised money for SurfAid, collected food for the local food pantry, raised money for kids in Ukraine, and collected skate gear to pass out at the local skatepark when it reopened.
“I hope that kids are inspired to make a difference and help people,” says Doorley. “I want people to leave the beaches better than they found them, protect the ocean and waves, adopt pets, and just be the good in the world. You are never too little to make a difference!”
