Nic Von Rupp leads an interesting life. He is, of course, one of the best big wave surfers in the world, with hi teeth thoroughly cut of giant Nazaré. But, like all big wave surfers, one big wave spot is never going to keep the fire stoked, so Nic goes looking for more. Like the wave you see above, for example. A Portuguese slab that could be considered a secret spot—but by the looks of it, even if the location gets out, there aren’t going to be a lot of takers on the big days.
The newest installment of Nic’s Youtube series, “Von Froth”, was filmed the day after the Nazaré Challenge. Emotions were high and energy levels were low. But when there’s a swell in the water like the one that greenlit the first Nazaré tow surfing event, low energy levels aren’t an excuse. Nic, along with a few friends, headed up the Portuguese coastline to one of his favorite waves and scored six straight hours of 10-12 foot tubes.
