A massive south swell lit up Oahu’s south shore this week. Of course, the usual suspects all came out to get a piece (see: Koa Rothman taking on an Ala Moana tube-fest), but there were also a few surprises out in the lineup. A recent social media clip shows a brave, bordering on psychotic, pack of watermen taking on the surf in an outrigger canoe.
The clip comes courtesy of the paddling channel, Ocean Paddler TV. In it, a group of watermen, including Alika Winter, Jason Ignacio, Shane Andjelic-Davies and Tanner Haytin, tandem surf some monstrosities at Castle’s on Oahu’s south shore.
Unfortunately for them, they also manage to get caught inside shortly after – a hair-raising situation under the best circumstances, and an absolute nightmare when you’ve got the potential of an entire damn canoe flying at your head. Undeterred, the gang bails, weathers the storm, and racks up for another run.
