Porsche and Almond Surfboards

The Inertia

In October of 2024, there was a strange pairing in the surf world. Porsche and Almond Surfboards, two iconic brands from two totally different worlds, connected on a surfboard project. Both lean heavily on styling and performance, so oddly, it made sense. So much sense that they’re doing it again.

“After a successful introduction in 2024, Porsche announces a second collaboration with California-based Almond Surfboards,” a press release from Porsche says. “This time inspired by the classic 911 Carrera RS 2.7, the limited-edition collection features custom-made surfboards alongside a capsule of California laid-back apparel and accessories.”

This is far from the first time high-end brands have slummed it in the surfing world. Mercedes made a surfboard for Garrett McNamara a few years back. Prada created what could be the most hideous surf booties on the planet. Dior and Stussy joined forces to makes surfboards and a beach collection. Dior also teamed up with Vissla for a wetsuit collaboration.

The first time around, Porsche and Almond made a mid-length 7′ 10” Porsche x Almond Cash-Yew II Surfboard and a 9′ 11” Porsche x Almond “The Surf Thump” Surfboard. This time, they’ve gone shorter, with a pretty little swallowtail.

“The six-foot swallowtail surfboard comes in three iconic color ways, Grand Prix White with either blue, red or green, shades that are reminiscent of the historic sports car that debuted in 1972,” Porsche continued. In another nod to the classic car, only 72 surfboards will be made.

The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is one of Porsche’s most sought after models, due largely in part to the unmistakable spoiler, so it was an obvious choice. It’s light, powerful, and was the first 911 to have the Carrera name.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Almond Surfboards for the second year in a row, this time celebrating one of the most celebrated 911 models of all time,” said Karsten von Engeln, President & CEO, Porsche Design of America, Inc. “Together with the team at Almond, we’ve created a distinctive, high-performance surfboard that not only will appeal to surfing enthusiasts and Porsche fans, but also design aficionados alike. It looks just as good in the water, as it does on the roof of a Porsche, or on the wall in your home.”

It comes with a hefty price tag, though, so it might be a good idea to leave it on the wall. Retailing for $3,000, the Porsche x Almond board will likely surf very well — it’s an Almond, after all — but dinging that thing would certainly hurt the pocket book.
