Quiksilver Festival by Swatch is back. As announced in a recent press release, the French surf, skate, music and art event will run from September 19-27 in Capbreton, Hossegor and Seignosse in the Southwest of France.
The festival promises to be well-attended in terms of athletic talent. Kelly Slater, Kauli Vaast, Jérémy Florès, Marco Mignot, Hughie Vaughan, Coco Ho and Milla Coco Brown will all make appearances on the surf side. Meanwhile, the skaters will be rounded out by Sky Brown, Gustavo Ribeiro, Matthias Dandois and Sam Pilgrim.
However, the Quiksilver festival promises much more than just board riding. To that end, the company also announced that the creative direction of the festival will be helmed by So Me, the artistic director behind Ed Banger Records.
“When Quiksilver reached out to me for the Festival’s visuals, I got really excited at the prospect of merging the worlds of visual arts, music and boardriding,” said So Me. “I felt I could create a world that would be very colorful, bursting with freedom, something I already love to do in my work with Ed Banger Records. The previous editions of the Festival had already created a very strong visual foundation. Beyond my love of the southwest of France, this universe speaks to me: skateboarding, rock, rap, electro and visual arts have always been a part of my DNA, a passion I share with Ed Banger’s founder, Pedro Winter, a.k.a Busy P. The Ed Banger family and I are so excited to be on site for what is sure to be a memorable event.”
Naturally, Ed Banger’s involvement isn’t limited to only visuals. The record label is also organizing a series of DJ sets and live performances in multiple venues across Capbreton, Hossegor and Seignosse.
“The Quiksilver Festival is exactly my type of event: a place where the borders between music, boardriding, art and community simply disappear,” said Ed Banger founder Pedro Winter. “So we imagined a musical line-up that would reflect that. Audiences can expect a mix of musical universes, from Green Star‘s melodramatic rock and dance-pop band Alexsucks to up-and-coming French bass star Tatyana Jane, the iconoclastic Myd and much, much more. This lineup was designed as an invitation for festival-goers to discover artists that I’m really stoked about, from brand new faces to names that have long been alongside Ed Banger.”
