It’s rare for a celebrity to actually be any good at surfing. Much like the general public, there are far more who take a lesson or two on vacation and assign themselves the “surfer” label than those that actually put in the time to build up a base level of competency. Seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, appears to fall into the latter category.
It’s not the first time the F1 driver has been spotted riding a wave. Earlier this year, Hamilton posted a clip of him riding a boat wake – which itself wouldn’t elevate him too far past other celebrity surf clips, except for the fact that he actually managed to pull off a quite respectable 360 in the process.
A more recent post from the driver went on to show that his wave-riding skills extend to honest-to-goodness surf as well. In an Instagram Carousel, Hamilton showed off a few picturesque snapshots from a trip to Bali, as well as one clip of him riding a decent wave.
The footage garnered the attention of a number of surf pros. Sage Erickson, Griffin Colapinto, Julian Wilson and Bethany Hamilton were all among the enthusiastic commenters, but Kelly Slater probably summed up the response best with a succinct, “Brah!”
