A few years ago, Ross Williams called Rio Waida “the best surfer not on tour.” He’s scary good, with a bit of everything in his pocket. He’s the undisputed king of Keramas. His surfing has been shaped by the waves he grew up on, and those waves include Canguu, Padang, Uluwatu, and of course Keramas. Now, he’s on the Challenger Series, and he’s smoking the field.
“Sitting at the top of the CS rankings, Indonesian Olympian Rio Waida looks keen for a possible three-peat next week at the VANS US Open of Surfing,” the WSL wrote. “Coming off of back-to-back wins at the Sydney Surf Pro and Ballito Pro, the young Bali local seems ready to impress yet again in Huntington Beach, well on his way to becoming Indonesia’s first Championship Tour surfer.”
The video you see above is a best-of type collection, but it’s a best of so far. There’s a lot left to come, and we can’t wait to watch it all unfold.
