The Inertia

Shit is getting crazy. It seems like every other month someone is breaking the new world record for the largest wave ever ridden or getting towed into some new freakish devil slab out in Timbuktu. Ryan Hipwood is one of these crazy fellas that is pushing the limits of what is humanly possible. Check out what he did a few months ago at The Right in Western Australia – it will blow your mind.

“It’s really serious. It’s dangerous,” explained Hipwood. “I’ve had friends that have passed away from it. And the more competitive it gets and the more you rely on it as a job, you have to do the small things and prepare yourself as good as you can – otherwise, shit’s gonna go bad.”

The purpose of Ryan’s training is essentially based on surviving a wipeout. He trains his body and mind to relax while under dangerous, high pressure conditions. According to Ryan, it’s when you freak out and panic that things can go severely wrong.
