Remember that time Zoltan the Magician spent years kickflipping a surfboard? Literally years. Kickflip after kickflip after kickflip, filming each one and freaking out like each one was his first. Screw-ups became “first-ever darkslide on a surfboard.” I think it all started when Volcom decided to give the first person to do one $20,000. Then Zoltan did one that wasn’t quite up to Volcom’s standards, and they stiffed him. Zoli fans around the world screamed foul (except for a few who hate hate HATED it), and the brand decided that since he did, technically, do a kickflip–although not one above the lip like their rules stated it had to be–they’d suck it up and give him $10,000. Nice of them, all thing considered.
In the interest of transparency, I didn’t watch the entire video above. It’s 20 minutes long, basically un-edited, and I have the attention span of a gnat, unless I’m reading some kind of shitty novel (did you know Stephen’s King’s Dr. Sleep is the sequel to The Shining?!).
I skipped ahead, though, through all the boring stuff and the barely contained anger of the others at the skatepark to find the point where this guy did a kickflip on a surfboard with wheels on it. It’s at the 16 minute mark, and it’s very anti-climactic. But it’s a thing that happened, and the screenshot will probably suck a few people in. Maybe some of you will even think it’s awesome!
