Timmy Reyes is a solid human being. Timmy Reyes surfs like a cat on fire, too — fast, powerful, agile — and he spends most of his time doing what most surfers want to spend most of their time doing: looking for good waves. Oh, and he finds them. Cold water, warm water, and anything in between, if there’s a good wave, Reyes wants to surf it. As such, Firewire flicked him one of their models, the Flat Earth, and had him take a test drive.
The Flat Earth, a collaboration between Kelly Slater and Akila Aipa, looks like a very fun surfboard. The name, as you might have guessed, appears to be a bit of a troll by Slater, who has long held respectful, intelligent conversations on social media with Flat Earthers. According to Firewire, the board was shaped by Aipa and dialed in by Slater.
“This project pushed me to get my design even more refined,” Aipa explained. “That meant greater awareness to push the final product to its full potential by accentuating the concave, vee and double concaves then blend it all together with dimensions which will hopefully translate into user-friendly performance.”
