A few days ago, something incredible happened. An annual SurfAid Charity event raised the highest amount in the event’s five-year history.
Surfing Chefs for SurfAid is basically a dinner cooked by really good chefs and really good surfers. Everyone dresses up in their finest dinner attire and shells out up to $250 for a plate. This year’s lineup included Taj Burrow and Tom Carroll and some of Western Australia’s best chefs. The generous crowd raised $73,000, far more than had ever been raised before. The dinner included eight courses and 150 people, all of whom arrived hungry and left happy. “The surfers’ spirit of giving back was truly evident last night,” said Chef Russell Blaikie from Must Winebar. Blaikie is the founder of the Surfing Chefs, and he was overjoyed by the night’s success. “Our surfing community and their connections dug deep to raise an incredible amount of money and words cannot express how overwhelmed we are with their generosity.”
