It’s hard to stay at the top of any game for a long time. There is always someone drafting you, watching carefully to figure out how you got there, and taking your tricks of the trade and tweaking them to get ahead. But Taj Burrow and Bruce Irons stayed at the top for a long, long time. Both have reached legend status, so it’s interesting to look back in time to 1999. The video you see above is from Taylor Steele’s Loose Change, recently re-released on Youtube as a part of the Momentum Files.
“Without a doubt,” Steele writes, “Taj Burrow and Bruce Irons were two of the hottest new surfers rapidly cementing their positions in the new school of surfing. Their sections here show their diverse levels of progression in a time when performance surfing was moving in leaps and bounds.”
