The Snapt film series has always been about good surfing and rad music. Logan Dulien, the guy who started it all almost 25 years ago, still believes those are the only things his films ever needed to get people stoked. It’s exactly what he wanted to bring back to the surf world when he dropped Snapt4 with a $50,000 prize purse in 2021 — something sweet thrown into the pot for the surfers who’d agreed to keep every wave, every highlight, every clip in the final film a secret before its big release. That wasn’t a big request when Dulien got started at the turn of the century, when Instagram didn’t exist and every half-decent surfer with a sticker on their board endeavored to become a YouTube star so they could keep the lights on.
This also means the promotion for Snapt 5, which Dulien told us will be the final installment of his iconic series, will be strictly clips that were left on the cutting room floor just like Snapt4’s B-side highlights that teased us all before its big premiere. Sitting on said cutting room floor was enough footage from a recent Indo trip by one surfer returning to Snapt, Parker Coffin, and two newcomers, Taro Watanabe and Levi Slawson.
“With SNAPT, I want everyone just to go out and try and have fun and just nail my shit,” Dulien told us last December. He had Coffin and Watanabe locked in for the new project at the time but was still rounding out the roster. “Like, let’s end this thing on a really high, good note.”
