Great white sharks are apex predators, feared by pretty much everything in the ocean. They’ve evolved over millions of years to be the best hunters they can be. Dolphins and sea lions are on the menu, but rare drone footage captured by Carlos Gauna, also known as The Malibu Artist, found a few unlikely interactions between them.
“From dolphins teaming up to outmaneuver sharks to sea lions boldly chasing them out of the kelp forest, these encounters reveal just how much strategy, agility, and boldness matter in the ocean,” Gauna wrote. “You’ll also see why size isn’t always the deciding factor — and why even the largest sharks sometimes yield to smaller, faster rivals.”
The video shows a handful of clips caught on camera in recent months, and one thing is clear from them. As Gauna says, “sometimes, the best defense is a good offense.”
