The Inertia

Jackson Dorian lives a pretty damn good life for an 11-year-old. Hell, he lives a pretty damn good life for anyone. He’s a real-life Lost Boy, only he’s not lost and he’s got parents–which is much better than being an orphan stuck in a world where he’s constantly on the lookout for an adult who wants to murder him.

Of course, his dad, Shane Dorian, has a lot to do with Jackson’s childhood. While his big wave antics have put him where he is today, when he’s out of the water he’s just as impressive at his other pursuits. He’s not a person that spends his time indoors–an avid hunter, Dorian can usually be found either in the water or in the woods, and he’s instilling many of his values in his son, Jackson.

And of course, since he’s Jackson, he got a golden ticket to Kelly’s pool. Kelly, as it so happens, is Jackson’s godfather. “Jackson is my godson,” Kelly said. “Shane and I have been friends since we were 12 years old. I just wanted to see someone of [Jackson’s] size and caliber on this wave.”

And what’d Jackson think? Well, like everyone else who surfs it, he loved it. “The wave is insane,” he said. “It looks like Indonesia on steroids.”
