We’ve all said it: “I didn’t think you were going to make it.” You’ve said it after someone made it, of course, and you inadvertently ruined everything. It’s never a good time to do it, but if you do it to someone who is currently inside a barrel and your actions collapsed said barrel… well, that’s the worst time to do it. Not only is it dangerous, but you’re severely cramping someone else’s style. Take, for example, wave number one in the clip from Global Zoo above.
“Paddling for a wave that’s already being ridden is regarded as poor etiquette in surfing, as it can push down a section in front of the surfer that’s already up and riding,” Global Zoo wrote. “This issue is made worse at a perfect barrelling spot such as Lance’s Right (HT’s). Any disturbance will turn the tube into a chandeliering mess which is impossible to make. Apparently the victim had a few choice words for the perpetrator after the incident in the opening clip.”
It wasn’t a giant day at HT’s, not by any means, but there were still a handful of fun little tubes to be had.
