You’ve likely been inundated with photos and clips from the historic swell that swept through Skeleton Bay this summer. In part 1 of the Smith brothers’ blog, Koa called the first day “the biggest Skeleton Bay he’s ever seen.” Brett Barley clocked a 24-second barrel. And Irish surfer Ollie O’Flaherty nearly missed the whole thing after a 42-hour travel nightmare resulted in arriving in Namibia without a board bag (read about that here).
Day two of that same swell was definitely smaller but arguably more well-groomed. But the best part of the video above is Taj Burrow’s earnest reaction to the experience.
“A bodyboarder got the best wave I’ve ever seen in my life,” he says before walking back to the top of the point. “It was just the craziest thing I’ve ever witnessed.”
But even better is Taj’s explanation of a wave from the previous day.
“It was the most fucked up sensation I’ve ever had,” he says about a wave Benji Brand coaxed him into. “I was going so fast in the tube that I was like, ‘Holy fuck. What happens when you fall off going this fast?’ And then I got so lit up.”
That and more mind-bending perfection within.
