If you’re of a certain generation, the Weedmaps surf team is probably up there with the best surf team you’ve ever seen. Bruce Irons. Nathan Fletcher. And the newest member of the WM team, Jacob “Zeke” Szekely. Recently, those surf legends were joined by Herbie Fletcher, Matt Archbold, Bobby Martinez, Jeremy McGrath, and Colby Raha to have a reunion of sorts at the newly-opened DSRT Surf Lagoon in Palm Desert, California.
“On a sun-drenched day at the brand-new DSRT Surf lagoon in Palm Desert, California, the Weedmaps Surf Team came together for something special,” wrote the Weedmaps team. “What started as a session at one of the most exciting new surf facilities in North America quickly turned into a full-blown reunion of family, friends, and some of the most influential names in action sports history.”
That particular group of surfers are a lot more than just surfers. They’re surfers who influenced an entire generation — generations of surfers, if we’re being honest — with their hard-charging progression in waves of serious consequence. To see them surfing together in a tub is the past meeting the present and the future, all in one place. Most of them have been surfing with each other around the world for years.
“From the first wave to the last, the energy was electric,” Weedmaps continued. “Old friends reunited. New connections were made. Kids and families watched from the sidelines while legends carved lines in the consistent, high-quality waves of the Wavegarden-powered lagoon. There were big smiles, even bigger airs, and that unmistakable feeling that only happens when the right people are in the right place at the right time.”
