Mercedes-Benz combines luxury with performance across the full line of luxury cars, sedans, SUVs, coupes, roadsters, convertibles, and now, surfboards. Mercedes-Benz has partnered up with Garrett McNamara and Corticeira Amorim, the world’s largest cork producer, to manufacture a progressive cork surfboard designed to withstand the most extreme conditions. Garrett stated, “Cork is a highly resistant material, although sufficiently flexible to withhold the impact of big waves. When we surf big waves, we need a flexible board, although resistant enough not to break.” “It is an honor for me to be involved in the innovative MBoard Project developed by Mercedes-Benz, which now has the support of Corticeira Amorim, as well as the advanced technology of Polen Surfboards.” According to Jorge Aguiar, Marketing Manager at Mercedes-Benz, “We are seeking to find the perfect balance between weight, flexibility and speed, in order to allow Garrett to surf the famous North Canyon waves again, something we believe will happen soon.”
With the help of Mercedes-Benz, this campaign is a milestone in improving sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives not only in the surfing community, but also in a much broader audience. Furthermore, the campaign will facilitate the advancement of big wave surfing by allowing surfers to reach new achievements which were seemingly impossible with existing technology.
