Surfing is strange. There are all different interpretations of it: bodyboarding, stand up paddling, body surfing, hand planing, regular surfing, etc. In the end, it’s all about riding waves, no matter how you’re doing it. If you’re one of those people that’s concerned that someone else is riding a longboard, then you should stop being so concerned with what someone else is riding. One of those interpretations that isn’t all that common anymore is the waveski.
Since Merv Larson was doing things back in the ’60s on a waveski that no one else was even thinking about, waveskis have pretty much gone the way of the dinosaur. There are a few left, though. One who stands out is Pablo Arrouays. Pablo is making waves look much bigger than they actually are, and doing a pretty incredible job of whipping his ass around while holding onto a paddle. Here’s five minutes of Pablo riding a waveski in France, Australia, and Indonésia.
