The Inertia

Bruce Irons is an icon. The Hawaiian-born wave hunter needs no introduction, but here’s one anyway: He beat Kelly Slater in the 2001 Pipeline Masters and won the 2004 Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational. He surfed Teahupo’o blindfolded and was a Pipeline staple – he could always be relied on to nonchalantly charge the world’s most challenging waves. And he was of course the younger brother of three-time world champion Andy Irons.

Cantkeepmedown recently posted some footage of Bruce surfing Hawaii and Tahiti from 2007 to 2013, and it’s a pleasure to go back and see the man work. In the description of his video, Cantkeepmedown credits the 16mm film cinematography to Dave Warshauer and surf clips to Pete Frieden and Chris Gabriel.
